Australia Wildlife Hospital Volunteer
This volunteer in Australia program gives you the unique opportunity to help the vital work being carried out at a hospital specifically devoted to nursing wildlife back to health. You’ll find that the patients tend to be orphaned, sick or injured. Though a certain amount of experience is required for some medical treatments and animal feeding sessions, there are always loads to do if you want to become involved and your contribution will be very appreciated.
The Volunteer RoleYou’ll help on a variety of tasks, which might include feeding animals and helping give medical treatment. You’ll be asked also to clean out cages, aviaries and stables, along with general maintenance work typical to farms.
There’s also a lot of building work to be done. Ground and hospital maintenance is always ongoing, so that the animals are accommodated in environments beneficial to their recovery. This includes helping look after the fruit and vegetable gardens necessary for feeding the animals.
Programme locationThe hospital is located in a small town on the western edge of the stunning Atherton tablelands in northern Queensland about two and half hours from Cairns.
Accommodation and Meals
You’ll be accommodated in caravans, which have shared bath facilities, basic though clean and very comfortable. All meals are given by the hospital though volunteers are expected occasionally to help with preparation and cleaning up afterwards.
